Not the movie with the governor of California no. T2’s the name for a chain of tea shops. They sell a very good variety of loose leaf greens, blacks and red teas as well as chai and fruit teas but what I really like is their “stuff”. There’s a store near where I live and it’s a little haphazardly decorated and jarringly messy all in a good way. There’s a counter in the middle, with dark shelves everywhere laden with teas sorted by type. Then there’s round tables swamped with all manner of tea related bric a brac, from Japanese cast iron pots and stainless steel mesh strainers to Turkish style cups with loud printed patterns.

The packaging and their identity design stands out too. Simple helvetica is something everyone uses but there’s not too much to oversell the tea, with no cheesy nonsense like idyllic pictures of slave children working the fields in Sri Lanka on the dawn’s first light on the day of the solstice. It just tells you exactly what tea is contained within, with only color separating the varieties.

One of my fave things costs like $3.50 and its just a small amber colored glass jar with a black screwcap. It’s used to keep your tea in and it’s so simple and superclean, airtight plus the coloring helps keep the tea from harsh light. I am envisioning a whole row of these babies lining my desk in future next to a plusminuszero kettle.

= Tannic heaven.

Truth be told, it does reek of a certain white yuppie stench but I was so taken by the great service that I forked over the slightly high price of $12 for some organic sencha. They did not have a non organic version. Definitely going back for some rooibos, which I sampled and was delish. Still, I have quite a bit of tea to go through.

Right, so I’m dead set on keeping my hair long, tying it into a topknot-ish thingamajig and trying to keep shaving until I develop a worthy beard someday. Perhaps when I’m 40, I will finally be steezy. Like Hiroki.

Also, the interviewer sounds like one half of the Aunts in The Simpsons when she says “BOWHOWS MENTAHLATY…” in a supergruff voice that gets me cracking.

The Maltese Falcon

Released in 1941, Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor are the key players in this crime caper, considered to be one of the first examples of film noir. It’s definitely got a whole lotta style and Bogey rocks his smarmy charms on screen really well. He plays Sam Spade, a private eye, hired by Astor’s Ruth Wonderly to track her “missing” sister. Spade’s partner goes to stake things out but ends up dead instead. There’s more than meets the eye, Miss Wonderly is a fake! She’s just one of several others trying to get their hands on The Maltese Falcon, a seemingly inconsequential painted statuette of a bird, which is supposed to be encrusted with jewels worth a millions dollars.

Mix in some double triple crossing and the possibility that romance could come out of nothing and you have a film which captivated me from start to finish. They don’t really make movies like these anymore.

Bogey rolls a spliff in the opening scene.

This shot reminds me of Magritte. Everything does.

Mary Astor plays the love interest / lying sack of.

Peter Lorre as Joel Cairo, a flashy, European type crim.

The rather aptly nicknamed, “Fat Man”, comes with pre loaded English accent.

Summer’s a few months away and I’m not particularly looking forward to its return quite just yet. Something to do with the heat and flies you see. I like cold weather. I gets to wear more clothez. However, sometimes, certain objects are powerful enough to make you wish the seasons could flip on a dime. Like these awesome handmade in Maine, Quoddy boat shoes. Just think, stroking my beard with some whiskey ON A BOAT! ON A BOAT! ON A !*($&(*ING BOAT! feat. T-Pain yo.

Only a few months previous, these same shoes retailed at a ludicrously low amount and demand from the fashion set got so big that they had to hire more workers and raise prices. And they keep flying off the shelves anyway. Still, they probably make some of the finest moccasins around (everything is still small scale and completely handmade) and if you order from the online store, its supposed to take like one to two months to get to you because they do it to order. Or you could plump for one of the many collaborative efforts Quoddy puts out with various stores/brands like South Willard or Albam, which would see the time lapse cut short drastically and proffer some unique options.
