I totally wanna be Michael James, Peter O’Toole’s character in Woody Allen’s scripting and acting debut film, “What’s New Pussycat?”. He plays a suave playboy who desperately wants to settle down but can’t because he keeps getting distracted by a harem of beautiful women. The “problem” started when he was 12 and romanced his teacher till now when he’s basically a fashion editor surrounded by scores of lovelies. I basically want the surrounded by scores of lovelies without the wanting to settle down bit. He’s also hella steezy.

That’s Peter Sellers on the right, by the way, playing a psychoanalyst who combines Austin Powers with Lord Farquaad.

All I wear is shirts nowadays. Tees just make me feel bored. I wear tees when I go to work. Any other time I get to, it’s a shirt. Which is why I just robokopped 3 new U+J S/S 2010 button downs. Super clean, great value and they will probably fit like sex again based on measurements.

This Robert Geller X Levi’s Denim Shirt is also very appealing. Unfortunately, there’s no way I can try it on or get measurements or see it in real life so…

Also eyeing some Gitman Vintage oxford cloth button downs in plain colors.

The one shirt I really want though, is a Patrick Ervell club collar.

I need a pair of loafers like these. Either colorway. How I miss this many moons ago?!? It’s like the only nice thing I’ve seen from Raf Simons X Fred Perry collabo.

Like our fave local label at the mo, Vanishing Elephant is doing a really good job with shirting and even shoes that look decently made. So much so that reputable stores abroad are picking em up.

They started out really interesting and got a lot of dudes hooked onto this collar detail trend thing. So they had this short necktie thingy (I’ve got a shirt with this small detachable strip of cloth), club collars, interchangeable contrast collars, bib fronts, bowties, tux collars, double collars… All with some form of embellishment on the shirt.

Price wise, they ain’t super cheap at over one bill but if you can kop on sale, it’s well worth it. Most of the good stuff isn’t on the webby though.

I want me some Ervell! Love the pastelly color scheme which is like 100% aligned with my ideal summer steez, a preppy, washed out, pale, soft kinda look. Plus I already have the requisite Wallabees. Haha.

Perfect unstructured blazer in a perfect shade of sky blue, plus the matching rounded club collar shirt.

Or a sharp pink blazer with mint green shorts.

This is an awesome summer evening look.

Also, with any Ervell, you have to have some kind of kickass outerwear.

Sting plays a cameo as Ace Face, the poster boy mod in Franc Roddam’s Quadrophenia. I first heard of the film like 13 years ago in some random issue of Q or something which probably mentioned The Who. Never caught it till now.

I’ll be honest, put me hands up and say I know scant little about mods. I know bits about the fashion and the image but not the whys and the hows. I do like me an anorak though. And I secretly still hanker for a Fred Perry polo.

How boss is that eh? Ace Face. Just so you know, he’s really a bellboy.

I don’t normally don sunnies. Even though I live in the ultraviolet capital of the world. Still, because I wanna get my old man steez on, I kinda fancy the Rayban Clubmasters in tortoise and gold accents. Gotta get ready for middle age nahm’sayin?

I feel like a girl. I got moar shoes den the average du. Now at least. Just kopped 3 pairs of classics after my All Stars got dollar coin sized holes in the sole. First up was a pair of Nike Air Max 1s in Grey/Dark Obsidian.

Then I finally kopped a pair of Clarks Wallabees in sand suede so I can get my Richard Ashcroft on.

Plus a pair of grey Clarks Desert Boots that I’d hankered after for 2 years I think. These are a lot slimmer than I thought and also seem to go great with everything. Comfy as well.

Whilst I’m probably gonna cop a ToJ wallet, I really appreciate the design sensibility in the stuff MAKR puts out. Their One wallet is just a simple little card case made out of top quality leather but with the opening cut in such a way as to “mimic the natural position of thumb and forefinger when removing cards”.

The Angle wallet is similar, a card case wallet with the top corner lopped off. The detail being if you apply pressure to the curved side, it makes it easy to fan out your cards and pick the right one.

This subtlety is what takes their stuff to the next level. The style of wallet is also unconventional. At present, they don’t make anything with billfolds or card slots. Just bare space and quality leather. Ok they do have the Two wallet, which has 2 sides and a long wallet which has something like card slots but it’s nothing like what you normally expect. I never thought a workwear style could be minimal.

Hahaha. I went and got myself a pair of Wayfarers after my glasses lost one of the stem thingeys that support the frame off your nose bridge or whatever. They’re actually the new wayfarer, not the super classic vintagey squarer one. I like these cos they’re round and I haven’t had round glasses since my Primary 6 photo that went onto my ID card and forever raises a chuckle from all and sundry.
