Owen Breaks Wrist

In the latest footie news, Micheal Owen has broken his wrist in 3 places after signing for Manchester United. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle striker was as stunned as anyone when United manager Sir Alex Ferguson called him out of the blue. Having been linked with Hull and Stoke prior to the call, Owen looked set to retire and concentrate on horse racing instead. However, that’s all set to change now, as he looks to continue his brilliant form on the treatment table, this time in the red, white and black of the red devils.

In the ceremony where he was handed the number 7 jersey vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo, the elated Owen reportedly gripped the pen with a little too much force and slipped, tearing into the contract, whilst dislocating and fracturing his wrist. This latest injury setback is expected to put the dimunitive England hitman out of action until the next club comes along.

Sir Alex was unavailable for comment, although Owen Hargreaves was very excited to “have some company at last”.

klinsmann-tee

Was digging through my old clothes, looking for something to wear when I came across the above. I made it myself, dyed a plain white Uniqlo tee a minty green. (It was supposed to be kelly green but I didn’t use enough dye or whatever.) Then I stole a picture of Jurgen Klinsmann in a diving motion and posterized it before masking a layer and adding some text in a font I can no longer remember the name of.

klinsmann-front

It says, rather faintly, “Let’s All Do The Klinsmann”. I shoulda used a darker color and/or bigger font but whatever.

klinsmann-back

And that’s what I printed on the top of the back.

This shit prolly took me like 5 hours to do. Which is maybe 1 hour masking the thing, 3 hours sleeping, 30 mins with the font/color and 30 mins printing/ironing. I wanted a green shirt so it’d look like a footy pitch. I had a sense of humor back then. Sorry Spurs fans.

Q: Why isn’t Didier Drogba, performing as well for Chelsea this season as he has previously?

A: That’s because he’s been busy down under, popping up in Melbourne to win the Australian Open whilst wearing a Tutu. He defeated former footballer Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer (who has since converted his curls into a ponytail) 6-0 6-3.

Chelsea fans will be lining up in droves to kop that new kit.

Bit of a late pass but here’s to the Singapore table tennis team, Wang Yuegu, Feng Tianwei and Li Jiawei. They battled long and hard to get to the final and record the nation’s second ever Olympic medal. A lot has been made about their being born in China and not really being Singaporean but I think they are. Afterall, we’re a nation of immigrants, what’s adding another 3 more? We’ve always been able to adapt and extend beyond our pathetic physical size by looking outwards anyway. This victory might be a touch hollow for some but nevertheless, it remains a victory that reminds us that we need to keep looking outside the miniscule island that is Singapore. That’s if we want to continue on the way we’re heading of course.

Bravo ladies. Bravo.

The next step now involves stem cells and host mothers. Clone dem legends.

8/8/8 was a big day for China, as it shrugged aside criticisms about its human rights records and the recent Tibetan crisis and the Szechuan earthquake. That was the day that everyone put aside their misgivings and concentrated on the sporting spectacle that is the Olympics. China, on their part, played up to expectations, with their ambitious building projects, matched by an elaborate opening ceremony.

The following pictures are testament to that.
