Instead of dropping wads on Luxottica labeled glasses, I’ve turned to dropping near nothing on some decently made frames online sent to my door. This blog has all the discount codes and extra discount links you’ll need for a variety of websites that make glasses on the cheap, complete pairs available for under $20 delivered in some instances.
My last one was rather impressive, via Eyebuydirect.com. I managed to get some buy 1 get 1 free coupon from the blog, placed an order on 22nd Dec and received them yesterday, 29th Dec. A week. That is insane fast shipping. It also came with sturdy boxes and cleaning cloths. Even the packaging was decent and they used DHL. The glasses themselves? Two pairs cost me under $70. Both felt really good. Like solid good. The hinges were pretty decent, with a bit of a spring to it and the acetate felt like good stuff. Fit wise, I knew they were going to be ok based on their measurements but it’s always a little hit and miss. Still, I managed to score 2 pairs that I think fit good and are well made and incredibly cheap.
All you really need is a prescription from your optician, a set of measurements of your favorite pair of existing glasses (eye width, bridge, length, eye height etc) and the willingness to accept that stuff made and sent from China/Pakistan etc can be totally legit.

I got the Babbitt, a chunky style in black and the Humphries, a lightweight style in a shade of amber. Both came with anti reflective coating.
Dear Imbecile,
I learned today that you intend to screw over the already crap internet by forging ahead with your internet filter program nonsense despite advice from all and sundry that it will not work and will only slow stuff down. I hear lots of criticism about the program as some kind of media control method, wherein the government is allowed to deem whether something is unsavory or not. You choose to hide behind paedophiles as your excuse, saying you’re trying to protect the children. This shit has dragged on for ages, costing shit tons in taxpayer dollars to keep people like you gainfully employed whilst effectively doing not much at all. I personally find this rather disgusting.
Please GTFO.
Thanks,
Ivan
I frequent Sufu a lot. I stalk dere like pedobear at the 5 year old swimming championships. One awesome ting dey has is the gr8 people. One user in particular, done gone take da cake, by producing the most mad hectic, hot fiyah piece of varsity jacket evar.
Sheep dat I am, I splashed it and am now the proud and happy owner of a jacket which will keep me warm in the mildness that is Sydney’s winter. The Temple of Jawnz Varsity jacket is the first piece in a now growing collection of outerwear and other product ideas. These include the upcoming double American jacket. Which is the standard ToJ Varsity with zip closure on one side and it flips into an MA-1 on the other. Check the linked thread for moar.
I went for the standard varsity in the “Jason Bourne” colorway, which is basically grey cashmere blend body, with dark grey ribbing, white lambskin leather sleeves and pocket trim with white snap buttons. I fit perfect in the standard 48 but the creator was offering an MTM service, which includes the ability to pick colors and materials as well as variations for length, sleeve length etc. This jacket is a limited run and it will end at the end of July.

The leather is sooooo buuuuuttttteerrrryyyy sofffttt….. And da cashmere is sooooo smoooovvvveee… The inside is lined with blue check shirting, collar is foldback, sleeve ribbing is xtra long for stax, cut is slim throughout. Comes wif 2 diagonal front pockets and 1 inside pocket. SOOOOOO GUUUUUUDDDDD! I wore it outside in something like 10 degrees celsius and it was fine.

Google Wave is set to introduce an open source, multi user communication tool. It’s basically like instant messenging + email + conferencing with the benefit of keeping track of all points of any conversation at any time, based on privacy settings. Conversations are hosted on servers and even if you left for whatever reason, you could come back and even get a play by play rundown of the whole convo.
The video on the mainsite is 80 minutes long but kinda interesting. One shocking detail is that this was actually made in Sydney.
For the first time in 7 months or so, I woke up late. Real late. Which is bad if you’re the breakfast chef. Which I am. So it was bad. Stuff is supposed to go out at 7am. I woke up and took a cursory glance at the window, slightly beaming with the morning light. Strange, since I’m accustomed to the darkness that is 4am. I throw myself up and check the phone. 6.50.
7. I’m entering a cab and telling the driver in a mangled voice that I’m heading to Manly on the double. I keep trying to ring work but no luck.
7.15. I get a missed call from my head chef.
7.25. I manage to get through to work and let them know what’s up.
7.30 I call the head chef back and receive a free aural cleaning.
7.35 Breakfast is already out, thanks to my “apprentice”. Thank god. No one got their food late. I’m still in the shit.
This lengthy, blow by blow rant is purely to tell you not to rely too much on technology or at least on a single source. What happened was my phone didn’t ring more or less. Bless the cab driver, who kept me feeling cool thanks to a conversation that ranged from Singapore (he picked up from my accent) to Thai food, Kings of Leon, soccer and the gem that I should get 2 alarms. Just in case.
So I did. The best that I could at least and I’ve just tested it out. Its not a physical one although I plan to kop one of those with the annoying bells. This one is the iTunes Alarm Clock. Still relying on tech that failed me perhaps but I also got a couple people to ring me just in case.
Hopefully, I should be waking up to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Hysteric off their latest LP, It’s Blitz at the right time tomorrow.
Also, don’t stay up late making blog posts or doing random shit like flipping through cookbooks. You get tired like that. Oh crap. I think I just did it again.
Tired of old desktop so I changed it and added some new programs as well.

Clik for big.
The background is the New Order cover for Temptation. The iTunes player is Bowtie. The contact list is Adium pinned to the desktop with Afloat and using full transparency and Wordsworth from Fontalicious as the font.

This post marks the inauguration of a collaboration between Boxstr and WordPress aka I found a file hosting site that works for putting up mp3s. All of them have been slummed into a playlist that I call ~.
Gonzales’ Gentle Threat off his 2005 LP Solo Piano, where he ditches his pseudo hip-pop stylings for some Erik Satie-esque tinkling of the ivories. Probably my favorite piano song ever.
Lions & Tigers is a track from shoegazers Asobi Seksu, which actually means casual sex in Japanspeak. You can find more hair sweeping, ting tinging tracks off their ‘06 effort, Citrus.
Deerhunter’s Spring Hall Convert, from the album Cryptograms, keeps popping into my head when I’m working. Its that bit with the oooh waaa ohhh waaa or whatever is being mumbled to similar effect. In fact, I think the whole song is just ohh waaas.
Takeo Toyama is a guy that I really like, mostly whenever I used to step into a Muji store and they’d play his music on occasion. Gauche, off Etudes is particularly wonderful and moody, building up progressively in tension until it whimsically melts into a jazzy piece.
Blockhead happens to be one of my favorite electronic/hip-hop artists out there. His latest album, Uncle Tony’s Coloring Book, contains this gem, The Strain. Sooooo chilllllll.
