Totally impressed by these 2 guys watching the world cup group stages thus far. Mesut Ozil is a big name-ish type playing for a big-ish team in Bremen. Yet, after his performances on the big stage for his adopted country, there’s no way the biggest clubs won’t take notice. He’s got a sweet left foot, great close control, quite a few tricks and a superb eye for a pass. He’s happy to take people on and totally waste them. He’s just scored the winner against Ghana which isn’t in the vid below but you can check out his highlight reel anyhow.

Keisuke Honda currently plays in the Russian league with CSKA Moscow and is pretty much like an updated Nakamura but with better technical ability and blonde hair. This guy scores crazy free kicks man. Like the one at 2:55. In fact, just skip straight to that. It’s insane, maybe a little fortuitous in how perfectly he connected, but insane. He’s also really good on the ball and intelligent off it, making the right runs and creating space when I watched the Japan Denmark game. He scored one ultra long range freekick and set up the final third goal after skinning a Danish defender like he wasn’t there.
